Auto Expo 2014: DC Design Eleron and Tia unveiled in India

Dilip Chhabria, who is one of India’s leading car designers launched two concepts Eleron and Tia from his company DC Design at Auto Expo 2014. The unveiling was done by Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor.

The ‘Eleron’ is a targa topped SUV and the ‘Tia’ is a radically designed two-seater meant for urban use. DC design intends to start production of these cars by 2016, and to this effect his company has invested Rs 130 crores. The company plans to roll out 500 Elerons and 1000 Tias annually from 2016. It will also put India’s first indigenously built supercar the ‘Avanti’ which was unveiled two years ago, in to production later this year. DC hopes to manufacture 2000 units each year and has already marked Rs 85 crores from the aforementioned Rs 130 crore for this purpose.

Speaking at the launch, Kareena Kapoor said, “It gives me immense pleasure to be a part of such a remarkable launch. DC Design is clearly the most prominent and promising name in the Indian automotive design industry. Both Eleron and Tia are spectacular looking cars and are sure to create a buzz amongst Indian auto enthusiasts. I wish the team the very best for these car launches.

The upcoming Tata Bolt is the latest hatchback series in the company's model portfolio and it is unveiled with a 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel and 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine option. Its Quadrajet diesel motor is currently under the hood of Tata Vista hatchback and it is capable of delivering 22.3 Kmpl of maximum mileage. On the other hand, the company has not disclosed the mileage figures of the newly developed 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. However, it is expected that the engine could return 18 to 19 Kmpl of mileage, which will be rather good.

The newly unveiled Tata Bolt comes with a distinct style and appearance, which can steal your attention in the first glance itself. The company has blessed this new hatchback with its next-generation design language that renders it an aura of style and elegance. The company has designed this hatchback on the Tata Vista body platform and equipped it with striking new cosmetics. The front facade of this hatch is fitted with a sleekly designed headlight cluster that is incorporated with halogen lamps and turn indicator. This cluster surrounds a signature radiator grille with humanity lines that comes fitted with a chrome plated company logo. The manufacturer retained the design of the bumper from Vista model series and equipped it with a wide air intake and a pair of fog lamp bezels that gives a dynamic look to the frontage. The side profile of this hatch model remains quite identical to the Vista hatch model but the exterior mirrors get an aerodynamic design and incorporated with turn indicators. The ORVM caps and the door handles have been painted in body color. The company has fitted a chrome plated strip to the window sill that adds to the style of this hatch. The wheel arches have been fitted with a trendy set of 15-inch alloy wheels that adds an aura of elegance to the sides. The B and C pillars on the sides have been garnished with black, which gives it a contemporary look. The rear profile of this hatch is pretty, thanks to the stylishly designed boot lid that is surrounded by a sleekly crafted taillight cluster. There is a thick chrome plated strip fitted to the boot lid, just above the license plate and it is complimented by the company logo. The rear bumper is comes with dual toned scheme and it is fitted with a reflector that to the rear safety. The rear spoiler is pretty stylishly designed and it comes with a high mount stop lamp that gives it a full-fledged look.

Exterior Measurements:

This yet to be introduced hatchback comes with a total length of about 3825mm and with a total width of 1695mm. It has a pretty decent height of about 1550mm, which is quite good in comparison to other hatchbacks. On the other hand, the company built this car with a large wheelbase of about 2470mm.

According to the details, this yet to be introduced hatch will arrive with features including an HVAC system, power steering with tilt column, power windows with one touch operation, central locking, key less entry function, driver seat height adjuster are just to name a few. As per the details disclosed by the company, this hatch will also feature a Harman infotainment system integrated to a 5-inch touch screen display that also supports a music system, Bluetooth connectivity and provides support for portable USB and AUX-In devices. Here, for the convenience of the driver, the company has placed audio and call connectivity buttons on the steering wheel, which will be exciting for the customers.

Interior Measurements:

This upcoming hatchback comes with pretty decent dimensions unlike the conventional hatchbacks. As it is based on the Tata Vista model platform, we can expect for a good leg and shoulder space inside. This Tata Bolt hatch has managed to create a buzz around the automobile market with its engine specifications. The company is about to launch this hatchback series with both petrol and diesel engine options for the customers to choose from. The petrol version will be powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron engine that comes incorporated with a multi-point fuel injection system. The company developed this engine by integrating it with an intercooled turbo charging unit that enables it to produce a maximum 83.83Bhp at 5000rpm, while generating a peak torque output of about 140Nm at just 1750 to 3000rpm. This commanding torque output is delivered to the front wheels through an advanced 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel version comes fitted with a reliable 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel engine that comes with a total displacement capacity of 1248cc. The company has engineered this motor with 4-cylinders, and 16-valves and incorporated a multi-point fuel injection system. This allows the motor to generate a maximum power output of about 74Bhp at 4000rpm and results in churning out a peak torque output of about 190Nm at 1750 to 3000rpm. This diesel motor is coupled with a segment’s first 5-speed automated manual transmission gearbox that improves the overall performance and delivers a decent mileage. The company has claimed that the hatch comes with a payload capacity of about 425 Kgs, which is quite good.

The car maker has released some details regarding the technicalities of this hatch. The petrol powered Tata Bolt comes equipped with a 4-cylinder, 1.2-litre Revotron engine that can produce a maximum power output of about 83.83Bhp at 5000rpm, while yielding 140Nm of torque at 1750 to 3500rpm. On the other hand, its diesel version is powered by a 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel engine that can churn out 74Bhp of peak power at 4000rpm that result in generating a peak torque of 190Nm at 1750 to 3000rpm, which is rather good.

Acceleration:


There is no official information regarding the acceleration and pickup of the upcoming Tata Bolt hatchback. The company is offering its diesel version with a 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel motor, which is currently powering the Vista hatch series. This motor allows the vehicle to cross the 100 Kmph speed barrier in about 16 to 17 seconds and it can reach a maximum speed of about 148 Kmph, which is quite good. On the other hand, its Revotron 1.2-litre petrol mill is expected to be perkier in terms of acceleration and pickup.
